What is vibe coding?
Vibe coding is building software by describing what you want in plain language and letting AI write the code. You steer by outcome – what it looks like, how it behaves – instead of writing syntax line by line.

Where does the term come from?
AI researcher Andrej Karpathy coined "vibe coding" in early 2025, describing how he built apps by talking to an AI and accepting its changes without reading every line of code.
How vibe coding works in practice
You type: "Build a landing page for my bakery with opening hours and an order form." The AI builds it. Then: "Make it warmer", "Add prices", "Let customers pay online." You iterate until it's right.
With a tool like Lovable, the result includes hosting, a database and authentication, and goes live with one click.
Best vibe coding tools
Lovable: full-stack apps from a prompt, best for non-developers. Bolt: similar prompt-to-app flow, closer to the code. Cursor: an AI code editor for developers. Compare them in our Lovable vs Bolt vs Cursor guide.
Who is vibe coding for?
Founders validating ideas, marketers building tools, freelancers shipping client sites, and developers who want to prototype 10x faster.
What are the limitations?
For large, security-critical systems you still want experienced engineers reviewing the code. For websites, internal tools, MVPs and SaaS prototypes, vibe coding is more than enough.

Lovable, because hosting, database, login and payments are built in – you never have to touch a terminal.
